Happy holidays and best wishes for a warm and festive season from my family to yours!
This year has been a trying one in terms of media reports and changes within our province and our employer. Not all of the media coverage has been fair but unfortunately that is part of being a crown corporation employee and a union member in these times. All of this adds considerable stress to our already busy lives but I want you all to know that your entire Executive team has been and will continue to work diligently to advocate on your behalf. It is clear we will be faced with even more change in the coming year but we are up for the challenge and, with your help, we will make our voices heard!
We have been particularly busy as of late due to negotiating a tentative deal with Manitoba Hydro. I understand the worry and trepidation the end of a collective agreement can bring, especially during these difficult times, so am pleased to be able to deliver a tentative deal before our contract expires and before the Christmas break.
Like any other union, our strength is built on our members’ abilities and active participation. I am continually encouraged by these qualities as we move forward and engage on different issues. These are not hollow words but are a road map for success. Thank you all for your support and patience over the past year. We may not win them all but one thing is sure; we won’t win unless we try.
In solidarity, with deepest respect and sincere thanks,
President, CUPE Local 998
