Terms of Reference and Call for Interested Members
On January 13, 2016, following a review of the 2015 Executive election, CUPE National President Brother Mark Hancock addressed our election process via the following statement (view the entire letter here):
“I am however going to require the Local at the conclusion of elections to strike a Committee of three rank and file members with a liaison from the Executive Board to review the election process in Local 998 and make recommendations to the Executive Board and to the members on bylaw amendments with respect to the nomination and election process. The committee will be assisted by Brother Skomoroh and you or your designate.”
Local 998 has been taking strides to comply with this request and has created a Terms of Reference for the Election Review Committee. We are looking for members who wish to be a part of this committee and participate in strengthening our local’s election governance practices. If you would like to put your name forward to be on this committee, please send your request to committee Liaison Lisa Horishney by September 30, 2016 along with a brief description of why you feel you would be suitable for the position. Three members will be selected at the Executive meeting scheduled for October 11, 2016 and will be announced on this site shortly after. The Election Review Committee is expected to deliver its recommendations to the Executive by June 1, 2017.
Thank you to all the candidates and members for your patience with and participation in this process.
