Winnipeg Take Back the Night

Over the past several months a community group has been organizing the annual Winnipeg Take Back the Night event. This historical event is organized to raise awareness about gender-based violence and remind folks the work in stopping violence is not yet done. This will be the first time we can go back to the streets since the start of the pandemic!

This year we will be starting the event with a couple of speakers at the Knox United Church at 6:30, on Thursday, November 24/22 then will march around Central Park to call for action to end gender-based violence and ensure the streets are safe for all.

We will then return to the church for refreshments and a couple more speakers. The theme is Marching From the ’70s Into Tomorrow as we reflect on what made this start in the ’70s, what has changed, and what we need for tomorrow. All speakers are local folks who will bring their insight and experience to the march participants.

As part of the organizing committee to first invite you and your family, friends, and co-workers to the event

Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Friends,

The hardworking members of CUPE Local 1063 do important work to keep the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba running.

These workers currently have a strike mandate and are holding an Information Rally on Tuesday, November 8 from Noon to 12:45 PM in front of the WCB building at 333 Broadway in Winnipeg.

The rally is being held to call on their employer to reach a fair deal that includes fair wages and stops the employer’s call for concessions at the bargaining table.

We encourage all affiliates to join the rally in support of CUPE 1063 and the staff at WCB.

In Solidarity,
Kevin Rebeck
President of the Manitoba Federation of Labour and proud member of CUPE 1063

CUPE Recognizes The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2022

September 30, 2022 marks the 2nd annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

On this day we honor the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Widespread public commemoration and acknowledgement of the tragic and painful history, continued impact, and intergenerational trauma of Canada’s residential school legacy is a vital component of the reconciliation process. You can visit the NTRC website here for more information about events happening around Winnipeg and across Canada.

CUPE Supports ATU Local 1505

Today at 12pm at City Hall in Winnipeg – Treaty 1, ATU Local 1505 will be holding a Rally for improved safety measures for workers and riders of the transit system.

For those in Winnipeg, and who are able to come within their work day, we wanted to make sure you had the information ahead of time.

We were also just able to confirm that our National President, Mark Hancock will be joining the Rally from 12-1pm between meetings, while in town for a short visit this week, and we are pleased that he will be able to join some of us at the rally. For those who are out of town and not able to join us tomorrow, Brother Hancock will be back in Winnipeg for CUPE MB Convention and you will have an opportunity to connect with him then as well.

Information for the Rally:
We will bring along CUPE flags and for a meet up location, just look for the CUPE flags in the courtyard of City Hall @ 510 Main Street.
