National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Tuesday, September 30th,in Winnipeg and in Brandon it is important to take some time to reflect on the painful impact of residential schools and commit ourselves to reconciliation and justice for all Indigenous people.

CUPE stands in solidarity with the members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW)
Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Friends:
CUPE stands in solidarity with the members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) who have returned to the picket lines across the country after the Liberal government’s announcement of a plan to allow Canada Post to end home delivery, slash delivery speeds, and shutter post offices across the country.
CUPW members provide a vital public service – and these cuts are nothing short of a direct attack on the public sector in our country.
We are calling on CUPE members across the country to show your solidarity by supporting a CUPW picket line in your community. To find a picket line near you click here.

Important Updates
- Payouts: Manitoba Hydro will provide notification once the payout schedule has been finalized.
- Media Release : A CUPE media release will be distributed to all media outlets today.
For those members who submitted banking information, please be assured that these documents will now be securely shredded by our Union Treasurer and the CUPE National Office.

Ratification Results
The CUPE 998 Bargaining Team is pleased to share the certified results provided by Simply Voting with our membership.

Ratification of Current Offer
The ratification vote closes today at 4:00 p.m. The official Simply Voting results will be sent to all members via both work and personal email addresses by 4:30 p.m. today.
The process has been confirmed by our National Office in the event the offer is rejected, CUPE will return to the bargaining table with the employer to continue negotiations. Should an impasse be reached after further negotiations with the employer, a 72-hour strike notice will be issued to the employer.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – September 30
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.
Public commemoration of this tragic and painful history—and the ongoing impacts of residential schools—is a vital part of the reconciliation process. This federal statutory holiday was established through legislative amendments made by Parliament.
Orange Shirt Day
Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30.
Orange Shirt Day, led by Indigenous communities, raises awareness of the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on children, families, and communities. It is a time to honour Indigenous children who were lost in the residential school system and to stand in solidarity with Survivors.
The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by many Indigenous children. It is also a reminder that Every Child Matters.
How to Participate
On September 30, CUPE Local 998 encourages all members and Canadians to:
- Wear orange to honour Survivors and remember the children who never came home.
- Consider a beaded orange shirt necklace as a powerful symbol of remembrance and resilience.
- Share your reflections and how you mark this day on social media using the hashtag #NDTR.
- Download and use educational resources to help spread awareness and continue learning about the impacts of residential schools.

CUPE 998 is proud to announce that we have reached a Tentative Agreement to present to our membership. Your bargaining team worked tirelessly to secure this deal on behalf of all members—without compromising or dividing our union.
This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering strength and solidarity of our membership. By standing united behind your bargaining team, you made it clear that we move forward together, leaving no one behind.
This agreement represents the strongest deal in CUPE 998’s history. Because of this, your bargaining team is Recommending that the membership votes to accept the offer.
